Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 2, 2026

1. Introduction

Clarity Journal ("we," "us," or "our") is a voice-first AI journaling application operated by Ebisong. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service at clarityjournal.ai.

By using Clarity Journal, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile information through our authentication provider, Clerk. This includes any information you provide during sign-up or through a connected social login.

Journal Content

We store the text content of your journal entries, including messages you send during conversations, as well as AI-generated responses, themes, mood assessments, action items, and summaries derived from your entries.

Voice Data

Clarity Journal uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API for voice input. Voice-to-text conversion happens locally in your browser. We do not record, transmit, or store your raw audio. We only receive the transcribed text.

Usage and Billing Data

We track entry counts and token usage for service operation and billing enforcement. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by Polar (with Stripe as the underlying processor). We do not store your credit card number or full payment details on our servers.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • AI Processing:Your journal text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate structured insights including themes, mood analysis, action items, and coaching responses. This processing happens server-side. Your text is sent to Anthropic in real time and is not stored by Anthropic for model training purposes.
  • Service Operation: To provide, maintain, and improve the journaling experience, enforce usage limits, and manage your account.
  • Communication: To send service-related notices such as billing confirmations or important changes to the service.

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third-party services to operate Clarity Journal. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

  • Clerk — Authentication and user management. Stores your account credentials and profile.
  • Convex — Backend database. Stores your journal entries, conversations, and account data.
  • Anthropic (Claude) — AI processing. Receives your journal text to generate insights. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train its models.
  • Polar / Stripe — Payment processing for paid subscriptions. Handles billing details and payment transactions.
  • Vercel — Application hosting and content delivery.

5. Data Security

Your data is encrypted at rest and in transit (TLS). However, Clarity Journal is not end-to-end encrypted. Your journal text is processed in plaintext on our servers and by Anthropic's API in order to provide AI-powered insights. While we implement reasonable security measures, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Data Retention

We retain your journal entries and account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your journal entries and personal data from our systems. Some data may persist in backups for a limited period before being permanently removed.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data stored in your account.
  • Delete your account and all associated journal data.
  • Export your journal entries (contact us to request an export).
  • Withdraw consent by discontinuing use of the service at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@clarityjournal.ai.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not provide your data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Your journal content is never used to train AI models. We only share data with the third-party service providers listed above, solely as necessary to operate the service.

9. Children's Privacy

Clarity Journal is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete that information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (for example, via email or a notice within the app).
